Ready to Ramble?

Goose went out Wed evening hoping to do a little rambling. His elbow looks a lot better, not sure what is up with his knee and calf - it has been swollen. He got there just in time to as he put it "take a leak" and head out. He tried to pull through, somebody fell off a bit and tried to help them back on. When the cows turned the corner and put the hammer down, he knew he was done. Egg yelled at him to get back on, but he knew he was done. He didn't seem too down about it, he knew he has lost some of "it" through this infection and not being able to train.

Goose actually lasted longer than I thought. I had dinner ready about 45 minutes earlier than he was home. That is a good thing! I was glad he was able to go out and at least try - he needs that bull bonding every now and then (hehe).

I must admit I am getting a little nervous - September is coming quicker than I would like. His training isn't on schedule now - I will do everything I can do to help get his training back where it needs to be for the Team USA qualifications in September.

It seems that ultimately it is out of our hands - but I know Goose he won't quit trying (and I really wouldn't have it any other way!)

Better Living and Training Through Drugs

Well not really. Jeff has seen the orthopedic surgeon and he wants to see him again on Tues. to re-assess his elbow. Still on drugs. I finally got my results from the nuclear stress test and I am on something that should help the irregular heart.

Jeff rode this afternoon and did OK. He is fatigued and if I had to guess it because of the staph infection. Hopefully he can walk with me in the next few days to see if the meds are working for me. IT SUCKS when you start to get old!

Not So Happy Birthday Goose

Sunday, July 1 was Jeff's 55th Birthday. Had a great day planned - hadkick butt Red's tickets (I know that are in last place) with a parking pass for under the stadium.

Let's back to earlier in the week - Jeff had hurt his elbow back in June training with Mark in the canoe. It was tender and had a little swelling - well then it "swelled" and he went to After Hours in Tipp. They gave him a couple of shots, drugs and sent him on his way. Few days later it was really swollen and very red, sent him back to After Hours and they drained the fluid an sent it to be tested. He had to see his family Dr the next day - nothing really to do but he wanted a second opinion with an Orthopedic Dr. He tried to run on Saturday and had to walk in - he said his legs just "hurt". After yard work - he arm looked a little swollen again - no real big deal. He woke up Sunday morning and had another sore with fluid above the other one. Not good - we sterilized a pin and he put a hole in that one and it drained. 2 big bandages later we are off to pick up Rebecca, Andrew and AJ. Before I left, I asked if he had let the dog in and yup was his answer - this was 11 am. We finally got home about 8 pm - dog always meets us at the door. Yep ya guessed it - no dog. Back door was unlocked which meant somebody had let him out and not back in. He was not to be found. Thank God for great neighbors there were many people looking for him. He is half blind and doesn't get around very well (unless he smells food!). It was about 10 pm where our teenage neighbor found him in the next housing development. Still can't figure out how he made it there but he was found. He was scared (not to mention so were we) and he has followed me around all day to day.

Then this after noon I got a call with the test results of the fluid Goose has a staph infection and is seeing an Orthopedic Surgeon 7 am on Tues morning. He is on a strong antibiotic that will help, but not sure what they will want to do.

So, I think Goose will remember this birthday as being pretty crappy. Not sure what this will do to his training. Hopefully he won't be down long.
