Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Shit

hehe - fun day today. Chuck arrived first with Eggie to follow. The plan was Uphill Grind but Chuck is still working on getting it copied. So what to do? Hmmmmm - Guess the Hills were alive again today with a good twist. Everybody got settled in and started with Hillacious. Rode the entire ride with going back to the 8 minute steady climb (with Goose tossing in a "I don't care" to me - boy will that statement come back to haunt him!) Then Egg suggested we do the 5K Prologue - well why not :). This part brought out the Oh Boy, Oh Boy, Oh Shit from Goose. Lots of coaching from Egg to all of us - lots of good jobs exchanged with a cool down to Lance tapes (thanks Chuck). Had fun talking about up coming trips, Egg announced that I was riding the Parkway in Asheville in July (time for Jeff to take out more life insurance on me). I know with the coaching of people, I won't give up and I will be able to finish it (might be a little slow, but what the hell, a finish is a finish!)

Looking forward to the rides this week!

Eggxactlacious

That says it all! Excellent night for trainer ride. Goose got home early, Egg was early, I was ready to go. Left it up to Egg to decide what to ride. My favorite was chosen. I actually almost felt back to normal (after 4 weeks, I would hope so). Everyone was riding sooo hard, lots of sweat - no real honks from Goose tonight. Egg rode awesome and had enough to talk Goose and I through it riding really hard. Thanks Egg!

I really think both of the guys are ahead of schedule. Goose's running is way ahead, trainer rides are going better than last year and Egg is in better shape than I have seen him in January.

I think they are getting ready for GA!

Had fun afterward. Got lots of coaching about shifting on climbs, which I really had no idea. After Egg left Jeff discovered my back tire was flat again. He took the tube out and my valve stem had rotted off the tube.

Looking forward to this weekend with our own made up torture hill ride.

I FOUND MY THRILL

And it wasn't on Blueberry Hill :p. Eggie showed up at noon for a nice "easy" spin. First he had to empty out his bag of goodies - Skin Suit and Sleeveless Jersey. Man are they cool. Goose tried his on and it fits sooooo good, I waited until Egg left and tried on mine - Wow - what a thrill to have a mad cow on my back. I can't wait to ride in Asheville with Goose and Egg and attempt to climb with that jersey on. We let Egg decide what we were riding today - made my day - All Coach Troy - spandex fix was satisfied (with me) and what a climb. Egg and Goose rode really well today (no calls from the Goose today). After yesterday, Egg riding his 100 (again) he really was in the zone today. Great job! I was able to make it the entire time, was able to get in big ring but no 12 for me. Beautiful scenery in Arizona, long steady climbing, makes getting ready for 2009 look like fun. HOW BAD DO YOU WANT IT - and how much fun can we all have? Rut Beers for Egg, PoPo juice for us - power bars - what more can you ask for.

Lovin" Sunday

It was decided a few months ago that Jan 11 was designated as Lovin' Sunday. Not sure who has lost their mind (or minds), but 10 days after Hardcore 100? Well it was on and I was just hoping to get a little saddle time. TKO remembered us talking about it Hardcore Sunday and came for some punishment! So it Coach ET, TKO, Goose and maybe me. TKO was on a time constraint and knew he couldn't stay of the entire time, the rest were in (well sorta). Coach ET talking (err sometimes screaming) encouragement to Goose, Goose sometimes answering with words that would get this blog banned :P. I was able to hang on for almost 2 hours saddle time, staying in the small ring and very little shifting. The guys rode awesome and should be very pleased with what they did. I was a little disappointed in myself, but I know I needed to get over it.

Now, having heard most of Hardcore 100 (under the influence of legal drugs) and having done Tough Love once last year, completed it twice this year and I really can't count Sunday, I truly believe that Hardcore is much easier than Tough Love. Longer saddle time, but I think an easier ride.

Looking forward to getting back on the bike with Goose and really riding - not just spinning.

What a Grind

Wednesday brought Goose home in another truck - his green baby has a couple of problems and wouldn't start. Could tell by looking at his face tonight might be a struggle for him (we are working on the mental part!). Since I wasn't really riding (just spinning my legs). So I heard a little chuckle and "Does the VCR still work?" Yep and we were off to Uphill Grind. Coach ET, Goose and me. It has been a while since we have ridden to that tape. Glad I could cop out with most I can do is just spin!

Just as I thought, Goose struggled in parts, but he didn't quit and actually rode well. I was able to spin the entire 45 minutes thanks to Coach ET and Goose.

Looks like I am going to try again on Friday night in anticipation for a hard Sunday! Spring well be here before ya know it!

Do Ya Get It?

Have ever been somewhere, heard something, or read something and you just have to wonder - Do they really get it? Well, that happened today and I am still scratching my head wondering what planet they live on! Oh well, guess that is what makes our planet spin like it does.

Healing is going well (as far as the actual incision. Had a terrible reaction to a drug I was taking. Not sure which one - doesn't matter - it looked like I had chicken pox. Had a horrible rash - yeah to Medrol Dosepacs. At least the itching has gone away, the under the skin rash is still present. I can deal with that as long as it doesn't itch!

I am gone to try to get back on the bike Wed. It will just be a real easy spin, no standing, etc.

Hardcore Resolution

First - HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope everyone had a fun, safe New Year's Eve.

Now, a couple of weeks ago when riding with Crilli and Egg a suggestion was made for New Year's Day. Since neither Goose or I are much on New Year's Resolutions it was taken kinda lightly in the beginning. After riding for another hour the discussion started up again. It revolved around Goose was going to be stuck with me for about 10 days, I would not be able to do anything that would require lots of energy, Goose had to work on Jan 3 (Sat) and couldn't get started early on Sun (Jan 4) - so why not! It was a fairly weak commitment in the beginning, but as the days went by, he said "Why not? I'm in" At first I thought I could just get on the bike and "spin" for a couple of hours, well 6 days after surgery, I knew I couldn't. Couple of people thought about riding, but either didn't have trainers, or trainers that were easy to move. So, why not let them use mine.

I guess discussions had been with Tim and Chuck and Chuck decided to bite on the offer. Chuck gets here about 11:30 with Egg to follow about 11:45. At noon they are off and riding. Chuck had plans to make it as long as he could (which was just a little over 2 1/2 hours - I think). During the first 2 hours I sorta walked in and out of the ride (not happy I couldn't attempt it, smart enough to know the Dr would not be happy with me if I did).

They were all smiles before the riding started!

At different times during the DVDs I kept hearing "Now that is motivation". I finally decided to see exactly what their motivation was AND --- she was it - Chuck was deciding if he was going on - his wife gave him the green light to stay, but he said his legs were telling him something different. I know Goose and Egg were thrilled he came up and stayed as long as he did. - Side note to Chuck- we begged Coach Troy not to let the air out of your tires (lol)

After Chuck left Goose switched off his fluid trainer to my mag. Goose's first expectation was to make to to 4 hours and then see how he felt. As Crilli would say, come on Goose what is another 3600 seconds? At the 4 hour point Egg looked over at Goose and said "toughen the F%CK UP!! " :) And, he did! I was really happy to see Goose and Egg make it to the 5 hour point. The 100 miles was reached within the 5 hours and I really am not sure why they continued to ride. I tried to get a picture of the 100 miles and it didn't turn our but the time did -

Long day for them riding - time seemed to go by quickly. I can say it is more fun to ride on the trainer than watch others ride.

Once again all smiles. As Coach Troy promised one rider, cold beer afterwards, Goose got his PoPo Juice and Egg his Rootbeer.

What a way to start out the new year! Thanks Egg and TKO for giving Goose something to do!
